Working in a new medium of oil and cold wax, I have been reminded to be present. Each painting is built in layers over many days.  The process is slow and tactile, grounded in trust and patience. When the layers have cured, I carve into them to uncover what has been hidden. It feels like excavation and listening.

Pottery tools make marks and excavate what lies below. I think of them as unconventional instruments for an unpredictable medium. The carving becomes more than a mark; it lives within the surface.

Line is at the heart of this work. A simple mark or scribble is thought made visible. Words, too, are made of lines.  Like lines, words invite us to slow down and notice. Each painting is named for a single word that felt like a place to rest.

This show reflects how one action leads into another, each gesture carrying forward and shaping what follows. It is also a practice of letting go, of allowing for the unexpected. An invitation to linger and pay attention. Meaning is not forced; it reveals itself over time.
