Start Where You Are

As an artist, you become accustomed to starting new work without having all of the answers. I often have no idea where a painting will end up and what path it may take as I work through it.  Too much planning can be a hindrance, leaving the painting stale and perhaps lifeless.  Responding as you go is not only a lot more fun and creative but often produces beautiful results you could never have planned for.

As comfortable as I am with the artistic process, putting together this website and blog was an exercise in tolerating the unknown. I knew little to nothing before I started and as the saying goes, I would rather be painting.  I am grateful for all the help I received from the talented folks at Bespoke Projects Inc. who walked me through the process and answered all my (many) questions.

I am still learning and things will evolve as my art practice grows. With this website, I made a move to start without knowing the end result and you know what? It worked out. I now have, what I think is, a pretty great tool to showcase my work!

There is always an excuse to not face the unknown and a million reasons to put it off. This is my first blog post and I feel like I have no idea what I am doing. However, I know I will get better over time, just as I get better every time I step into the studio with a willing heart and just START.

Did you find this perspective helpful and is this something that resonates with you? Let me know in the comments.

START where you are.  USE what you have.

DO what you can.
